Prescribed burns 2024
Fall burns - The goals for this fall picked up from where things left off from last fall. The more recently seeded fields (riparian buffers and northeast cropland) had partial burns so they were to be reburned. The river field needs repeated burns to eliminate the box elder infestation. The eastern field that is is in CRP needed an initial burn. There are usually spot areas to be burned as well. The overall burn plan includes 40 acres. There was some hope to do some small woodland burning.
The burn season had to wait due to excessive dryness. After some rainfall, there was a fairly short window before we then became too wet to burn. The burn team was Seth Andrews and Kevin Lair. Members of Iowa State University Architecture 3rd year studio used the burn for the program in their studio project. They attended to gain knowledge about the burn process first hand.
