Series A  -  xHUMA,  2004 -   (selected works)

xHUMA is a series gestural figure paintings. They emerged as a single vertical mark on the paper. The figure began as merely an action very much akin to digging one’s hand in the soil. However, it was vertical like the first Implement painting representing a standing figure. The figure mark was actually made with my hand and not a brush and all the figures are essentially “sculpted” with my hands and fingers like a pieces of wet dirt. xHUMA primary relationship is the balance between the
figure and ground (earth, dirt).
